Shelby's Writing Team - January 7

Write to Shelby.

Age: Teenager (16-20)
Requested by: Self
Location: Utah, USA
Issue: Self-confidence

What’s going on? She never gives herself credit for anything. She is the president of a HOSA club at her high school and she refuses to celebrate herself because she was never enough for anyone growing up. She is now 17 and a CNA and has no solid friends. She feels ugly and fat and never seems to look at herself just right.

What do you love most about this girl? She loves plants and baby animals and she likes Jesus. She is an out-of-the-box thinker and loves to serve others but never gets served herself.

Katherine's Writing Team - January 7

Write to Katherine.

Age: 20-something
Requested by: Coworker
Location: South Dakota, USA
Issue: Mental Health

What’s going on? Katherine struggles with a couple of auto immune diseases that have a big impact on her physical abilities, She gets very weak without any warning, and deals with swelling of her hands feet and ankles regularly which can make walking difficult. She leaves many doctors appointments with no answers which can be very frustrating and mentally challenging as well. She deals with anxiety and depression as well. She recently went through a breakup that was very hard for her. She has grown so much from this and I am so proud of her, but seeing her hit that low was very hard. I think she could still use some encouraging words to brighten her day.

What do you love most about this girl? Katherine is one of the strongest people I know, I really admire her confidence and dedication to everything she sets her mind to. She is beautiful, she is brave, she is funny and she will do anything for her friends and family. She always has the best ideas (very creative). Her outfits are always so cute! Despite her limitations, she is very adventurous, we recently attended goat yoga together and it was a blast! I am extremely grateful to have her in my life, she is always cracking jokes and trying to make people laugh and I love that about her. From a coworker's standpoint, she is very good at what she does and does not let the small things get her down, she is always thinking of new ideas or ways to do things that I would never have thought of and I enjoy having her by my side each day.

P.S. Katherine has 2 dogs Rayne and Skye that are her world.

Karen's Writing Team - January 7

Write to Karen.

Age: 50-something
Requested by: Friend
Location: Ohio, USA
Issue: Breast Cancer

What’s going on? Karen was diagnosed in June with stage 4 aggressive Breast Cancer (HER2 positive.) and has just started her chemo journey. Her breast is so inflamed and the growth so large they cannot operate at least a year because the swelling has to go down. She is in a lot of pain. Karen is one of the best people I know and is always helping others. She is asking for cards from friends with jokes to make her smile and keep her mind off the dx. She has a great support system with her husband and adult son but even with that it’s very difficult to juggle everything.

What do you love most about this girl? So Karen was my camp counselor when she was 16 and I was 12! So I have known her and her family for a very long time! When I became 17 we worked together for several years at the camp together. She loves to craft and teach kids knitting, origami, and crochet and bake (she's gluten free) and always seems to be willing to lend an ear or a helping hand when needed. She has been incredibly positive about her dx and trying so hard to stay upbeat despite the chemo really walloping her.

Location: Maryland, USA
Issue: Health concerns/illness

What’s going on? Brooke has dealt with many tragedies in her life. Her best friend Ava passed away due to a horrific dirt bike accident. Brooke fell into a depression and was put on medication. She also has an eating disorder that is ongoing and whenever she is anxious she throws up. The closest person in her life (her brother) started college this fall.

What do you love most about this girl? Brooke is the most caring, thoughtful, and strongest person I know. She’d do anything for anyone including animals or insects she would take them in and save their lives. She’s the person you can always count on for a laugh. She is so loved and smart.

P.S. Mention frogs (Ava her best friend loved them!)

Make sure she knows she’s loved
