What’s going on? She has lung cancer and just got surgery to get part of one of her lungs removed. The surgery went well, but it will be a long recovery (6+ weeks). She is an incredibly hardworking person and is very determined, but I think she could use some encouragement. In particular, being in pain and uncomfortable and having to be more reliant on other people to take care of her when she's often been the one to help others.

What do you love most about this girl? She is deeply involved in her community, and does a lot of service through her church. She's someone who has the "gift of gab" and is very much a social facilitator. She reads more than anyone I know (usually 5-6+ books a week - though she may not be reading as much while she's recovering) and has never stopped learning. Her life has not always been easy, but she has been resilient, never becoming bitter or losing her sense of humor, and never stopped trying to help others.

P.S. I would love for her to receive letters! She's done so much for so many other people throughout her life; I can't think of anyone who is more deserving.

What’s going on? Michelle is a single mom to 2 boys and she has diligently worked so hard to support her boys who are both on the spectrum. The last couple years have been difficult with multiple health concerns stemming from a cancer-related surgery. She is in constant pain with failed treatments and now looking at additional complications that is shattering her entire world. She wants nothing more than to be independent and active for her children.

What do you love most about this girl? She would do anything in the world for her family. She has a beautiful and caring heart. She doesn’t have a lot of support and isn’t in a financial position to seek emotional support. She would love to be a recipient of letters of love and encouragement as she navigates a particular dark time in your life.

P.S. She is not a believer but is open to hearing messages of faith - at least hasn’t pushed back when I’ve encouraged her and mentioned topics of faith. So gentle messages of encouragement in Christ is absolutely welcomed!

What’s going on? I'm writing to request letters for myself as I'm in a particularly difficult time in my life. For almost five years now, I've been experiencing declining health and I kept looking for answers as to what was happening to me. In the last sixth months, I finally got some and ended up with being diagnosed with an endocrine disease called Cushing's. I have a brain tumour which is causing this disease. I'm very very ill. I'm waiting for treatment, hoping for brain surgery this year.

What do you love most about this girl? What I love about myself is my kindness, my ability to "be" with people and hold space for them, with everything and anything that's going on in their lives. I've been told I'm very soft hearted and kind/affectionate and loving.

What’s going on? Mira is my beloved older sister. Though she is older, she only just learned how to read — and that alone speaks volumes about her determination. Mira has a condition called Feingold Syndrome and is severely handicapped- body and mental. When she was born, doctors said she would not make it past the age of three. She is now 16, and she fought every single day to get here. She can barely walk, but she still stands up every morning and trains with her walking aid — because that is just who she is. She is also deaf and mute, which would mean I could sign the letters to her myself, so that she can feel every single word. In May, we found out that her one remaining kidney is no longer functioning well. And yet, she keeps going. Mira has never received a letter. She deserves to be seen, to be celebrated, to know that people she has never met are thinking of her and rooting for her. Please help me show her that the world is full of kindness.

What do you love most about this girl? She is the strongest person I have ever known. She fought like a warrior through every single operation, survived every one of them, and rolled herself through hospital corridors in pain — in her blue wheelchair with dolphins on it, because she wanted the one the boys had, not the princess one. That is Mira.

She loves dogs more than almost anything in this world — probably more than she loves me, and I say that with the biggest smile. She loves animals, paintings, and nature in all its forms.

She makes me want to live. She is my sunshine.
