Thank you for signing up to host a Write Night!

Please be sure you already filled out the Write Night form.

  1. A few days before your event, open the current letter requests (password: theletterproject) and choose the requests that are most fitting for your group. Do not pick your recipients until a few days before the event.

  2. Sign up for the individual(s) you’d like to write to by clicking the link that says “Write to ___.” You’ll see a checkbox in this sign-up area to indicate you are signing up on behalf of your group.

  3. A confirmation email will be sent to email address you enter with the request and mailing information.

  4. Have your attendees mail their letters directly to the addresses provided in your email confirmation. Please have everyone mail within 1 week.

Have a group with over 50 attendees? After you sign up for your event, we’ll email you a few instructions to make hosting super simple. You will not need to select requests below.

Select Your Requests

Write Night FAQs!

You’ve got questions; we’ve got answers.

+ Should I mail each letter in an individual envelope?

You can mail them all in one big envelope. Or, if you are doing a virtual event, just have each person send their own letter directly to mailing address provided in the confirmation email.

+ Do I need to sign up on the Writers' Portal too?

A few days before your event, you will need to sign up for each person you'd like to write to. Mark the checkbox in the form that shows you are signing up for a Write Night. You'll be emailed the contact information and details for the recipients you choose. Be sure to wait until just before your event as those will be the current requests.

If you're a group with over 50 attendees, our process is a bit different. We'll connect with you via email.

+ Can I include contact information?

Sure, but it’s not required. Always use your best judgment when sharing personal information. This is not a pen pal service, so you’re never required to share your info.

+ What should our participants use to write on?

We've seen cards, stationary, printer paper, lined paper, anything! Whatever she's got available to write on will be perfect!

+ Our group includes boys/men. Who should they write to?

We're so glad they're writing too! We ask boys or men to a male in their lives who could use encouragement. If they can't think of anyone, other options include writing to a local hospital/clinic/grocery store to encourage them in the midst of this pandemic or writing a thank you letter to someone in their community.

+ Is our group required to donate money?

Nope! But we do operate entirely off of donations, so if you’d like to, that’s great! Donate here.

+ Can I mention religion?

If a request asks not to mention religion, we try to make sure we don't mention God/spirituality/prayer in any form. If it doesn't specify, people can definitely mention it but don't have to.

+ Will you open my letters?

Yes. Letters are reviewed.

+ Can I include stickers and small gifts?

Of course!

+ How quickly do I need to mail the letters?

Please mail them within one week of your Write Night.

+ How many recipients should I pick?

We encourage you to pick a few recipients whose stories may resonate with your attendees or share simliar ages, geographic backgrounds, etc. Keep in mind each recipient receives a bundle with 20 letters so totally okay for your attendees to write to the same person.

Still have questions? No problem. Email us anytime!

What People Are Saying

“I just checked my mail for the first time in a week. Y’ALL. TEARS. I opened my mailbox to find a “Special Delivery” just to me. When I opened the package it was filled with heartfelt letters of encouragement, love compliments. Letter after letter filled me with so much joy! WOW! Reading these, I never would have thought the girl they were referring to was me. This has truly been such an incredible gift. Whoever did this for me THANK YOU. SERIOUSLY. This is honestly one of the kindest and most thoughtful things anyone has ever done for me. ”
— A 23-year-old in Chicago
“The Letter Project is unlike any organization I’ve ever know and has such a powerful impact on women and girls who are in pain and might be in desperate need of the support of others. Their services are invaluable.”
— Mom of a 15-year-old
“As I opened and read through my bundle of letters I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude not only for the women and girls who took the time to care about me, but for The Letter Project existing to allow such a wonderful moment to happen in my life. I have not received a handwritten letter in ages. All of the letters were so genuinely kind and encouraging and empathetic. I will cherish them forever.”
— 40-something cancer patient
“I wanted to write to you and say thank you for all of the encouraging words you had to offer. As I read the letters, I found myself sitting in bed with tears of joy in my eyes...Your letters have helped me so much and inspired me to enjoy the little things in life. I hope to be like each and every one of you - kind, compassionate, loving...”
— A high school girl in Arkansas
“It meant so so much. To be able to go through and read all of the encouraging notes from people all around the world. None of them knew me personally, yet they all took time out of their busy lives to send me some encouragement and love. The Letter Project is a very special thing.”
— A 23-year-old
